Metro Campus Around Town Tour

The Metro Campus Area.

Do you want to be near the energy and opportunities of New York City – but prefer to attend college on a quiet, suburban campus? Then FDU’s Metropolitan Campus is the place for you! With its strong career focus, this campus is home to many of FDU’s business, professional, science and health care programs.

Running through the heart of campus is the Hackensack River. The Hackensack River Greenway is a 3.5 mile long park that runs through the Fairleigh Dickinson University campus. The Greenway is a certified National Recreation Trail. To support the river’s natural ecosystem, when the new campus footbridge was installed, the University ensured plantings were selected for their ability to restore the riverine ecosystem by attracting native birds, insects, and turtles.

Quaint homes, shops, ethnic restaurants and parks are nearby, as well as shopping malls, community groups, and office and professional buildings, where many of our resident and commuter students alike find part-time jobs. You’ll also like the campus’ proximity to New York City, where you can enjoy visiting Broadway, Wall Street and the United Nations.

Learn more about the Metropolitan Campus, or take a virtual tour.

Hi everyone. My name is Adam.

My name is Cathy.

And today we'll be giving you a tour and showing you downtown Teaneck and Hackensack, New Jersey.

We're going to show you what FDU students like to do on their free time. Maybe go to nearby shops, diners, restaurants, there's so many in the area, maybe places to even hang out just go shopping with friends or places to relax and just chill out.

So right now we are at the Student Union Building which is one of the main hubs on campus. A really popular place where people can meet and we'll show you how to get to the everywhere that we're going. So let's get started.

We have 7-11 right here so if you ever want to come by it's open 24/7. You can get your late night snacks here, your slurpees, whatever it is. It's very close to campus.

Okay. Yeah, so it is superduper close and obviously we do have the two gas stations Delta and another Delta. So you can pick and choose which one you like I personally like left Delta over right Delta. And right now that is Cedar Lane so we're gonna start walking and see what's in downtown Teaneck.

So we did just pass Amazing Savings, but we also have Chase Bank right over here, and across the street we also have an iHop.

And while we are walking right over here, who doesn't love a KFC, am I right? Okay. So Cassie, any favorite comic books? Or something you got?

Big Marvel fan.

Big Marvel fan. All right. Yeah.

I am too Spider Man is my favorite. Way to go Spider Man. Victor's Pizzeria is legendary among FDU students because a lot of people get them sometimes get them for like events and stuff. People order from Victor's or students who are just hungry, they order from it in general. And I also know a lot of students that actually work there as delivery drivers. I was about to do that once but I was like, you know what, maybe I don't do that to my car, but it is still super duper famous. And also right next to it, you got the CVS pharmacy, Walgreens, right next to each other.

Further, as we walk down Cedar Lane there, you'll see that there are plenty of shops nearby, and it really reflects how diverse the area is. There's many little stores that students might pass by and one of my favorites is actually Bishops Ice Cream Shop. So that's actually what we have further down in this area.

So we just stopped by Veggie Heaven. And Veggie Heaven is a very, very, very popular vegan restaurant. They have boba tea, everything they have is vegan vegetarian. It is amazing. Isn't that right Cassie? Yes.

And then down over here we do have Bishop's. So if you're looking for your homemade ice cream, you can go right over there, or just as me and M are about to do, we're gonna get some bubble tea.

Yes, bubble tea time.

Now we're inside Veggie Heaven, we just got our bubble tea, and we're gonna go check out what else we have.

Okay, got a bubble tea right over here. I just wanted to point out that they have amazing vegan cakes, and the best vegan cakes that I ever tried. Sorry, the best cakes that I ever tried. Order vegan cakes.

We just walked back to campus. And now we're going to take a three minute drive to the Hackensack side of campus and check out Target.

So about a 15 minute walk from campus or about a five minute drive, we do have Target and a lot of FDU students work at Target. So we always want to go there. I always kind of see maybe one or two students working there on the weekends. And right next to Target, we do have Taco Bell. And it is a really popular option with the students at FDU. Sometimes they go there late at night, they go get some tacos, maybe come back. So yeah. So actually right now we're going to get in our car, and then we're going to kind of see other places that you can go around here at FDU.

Now we are at another popular location nearby campus. This is a strip mall. And right behind me we actually have 99 Ranch, which is an Asian grocery market. We also have various food shops nearby. So some students go to Chipolte, they are very popular in the evenings, we do have an Applebee's, so students will come and get their half-halfs or, you know, just hang out and relax after classes.

About like a 10 minute drive from campus, you have Bowler's City, and it is a bowling alleys that's been here for a really long time. And it's a really fun spot for students to kind of just come here be they have all their bowling activities. So I know we did mention a lot of other food places, but there's a lot to do for activities around the Metropolitan campus. I've actually taken my friends here before for like birthday parties. It was super duper fun. And Cassie was actually telling me about Ice House which I actually didn't know that that was a thing. So Ice House is an indoor ice skating rink. And what else was that, Cassie?

So actually on the weekends, on Fridays, they do you have what they call Skate Jam Nights. So you can go out, skate with your friends, there's DJs, pizza. Just one of the fun things you can do around here.

This is another popular spot near FDU campus, this is Kudo's Society. They sell a lot of really great foods, bubble tea, and I frequently bump into a lot of FDU students here. It's a great spot to get work done. It's a very peaceful, you know, great study environment for students. So you can come here. Now we're actually going to go check out some malls nearby.

So actually, we just passed campus. It is on the right. I don't know if you could point the camera, Cassie. So actually right next to campus, we do have AMC theaters, Cheesecake Factory, what is it called? The shops in Riverside, right?

Yep. Yep.

And that is, actually you can see it while you're on campus, which is really interesting. Like while you're there, you can kind of see all this kind of stuff from the distance. And right now we're on our way to one of the malls. About 10 minute driving from campus, Westfield Garden State Plaza mall is nearby. It's a huge shopping mall with a huge food court. It has an AMC theater, and there's also an Apple store inside. So that's really nearby, everything to do with that kind of stuff. One of my really favorite places to go, and I'm super, super, super glad that it's right next to campus.

About five minutes from the mall there's IKEA and we really wanted to just stop by and show you real quick. We do have it coming up right now. So actually fun fact about this IKEA right now. There's only two IKEA is in New Jersey. And the one of the ones in New Jersey is about like 10 Minutes from FDU. It's like five minutes from the mall, so talk about convenience. All right, so the sun has set so we are going to call it a day. But we had so much fun showing you around Teaneck and Hackensack and everything that's nearby.

We hope that you can come here one day and see it all for yourself.

Thank you. Bye, guys!
