Career Development at FDU

At FDU, Career Development is an Important Part of Your Education

The FDU Career Development Center follows a developmental pattern of student awareness, exploration, experience, and choice, taking into account personal values and opportunities that contribute to society. We encourage students to begin career preparation during their first year. Following a specific plan, we believe each year of study will enhance career development--so our Career Development Center is here to help guide and support you through the steps needed.

Whether it's connecting with future employers in person, virtually or through the use of our job search platforms, like Handshake ("The #1 way college students find jobs.")--or finding that perfect internship with assistance from our CareerShift platform where students can search for company contacts and research organizations, the FDU Career Development Center has a wide array of career tools available to all students and alumni.  Additionally, each year the Career Development Center hosts over 50 on-campus and virtual events-- including career and job fairs to showcase our students and their talents.

The personal interview remains a key part of the job selection process. So, preparing for and mastering the skill of the interview is essential and the team of career coaches at the Career Development Center work individually with students to ensure they have the right preparation for a virtual or an in-person meeting.

As students work to narrow their career options, the team at the Career Development Center help you explore the various majors and the many career employment pathways available. Our goal is to assist you to create and build a portfolio that showcases you as a solid marketable candidate in the field of your choice.

Our students have gotten internships and jobs at a wide variety of companies including:

  • American Cancer Society

Learn more about FDU Career Development Center.

Congratulations, and welcome to FDU. My name is Donna Robertson, I'm the university Director of Career Development. So what that means is that we curate 1,000s of opportunities, whether it's professional or internship, to hopefully find the right opportunity for you. We have a great team, and we will help you find a career that fits you. One of the many reasons that I love working at FDU are, of course, the students. The students bring so many interests and personalities, backgrounds, experiences to campus, and we know that each of you is really unique. And our role as career educators is to help you tell your story. For us, it's not just checking the box, it's about building a relationship. We want to get to know you, as a person, really get to know what your interests are, what makes you tick, so that we can really help find the right opportunity that really fits you in what your interests are. So we want to help you explore options, try some things out, see what works, see what doesn't work. And in the end, we want you to graduate feeling really confident about the decisions that you've made.

FDU students are involved in many experiential opportunities, internships, clinicals, student teaching research. It's really important that you get outside the classroom, and being able to apply what you learn inside the classroom to the real world. So our goal is to help you connect as much as possible to those opportunities. So we also like to get to know your professors. We want to get to know your program. So we can really help you find the right fit. We also collaborate with alumni to help you build your professional network. In fact, even in the very first year, we find opportunities to connect you with alumni and employers so you can do informational interviews, and learn what a career is really about firsthand. Every year we host over 50 events, career fairs, workshops, panels. We really provide opportunities for you to connect with employers. And we're very lucky because employers seek us out, whether they're large or they're small, nationally, and locally. We get opportunities every day for you to find what might work for you. If going to our Career Fair or scheduling appointment seems a little scary, it's okay, we get it. That's why we have career peers. Career peers or students just like you. They've been trained by Career Development to learn all about the resources so that they can help you help yourself. Career Development welcomes the opportunity to help you and empower you to be whomever you want to be. So your career journey. It's just getting started. Are you excited? Are you ready? Let's go FDU.
